Saving money on Shipping

Most of our shipments are done by FedEx 3 days service in the cold months, and FedEx 2 day service in the summer.  A typical $300 shipment to the East Coast by FedEx 2 day will have about a 13-17% overheard.  FedEx 3 day is about 25% less.   If you are on the West Coast we ship by FedEx Ground which is very inexpensive.   Shipments over $500 by Air Cargo will have less than a 10% overhead charge.  Most retailers pass along the overheard charge to their customers, so they sell our products a bit higher than the MAP price.

Here are some suggestions for saving money on shipping:

  • If your shipment is large and you are near an airport, ship by Air Cargo.  Air Cargo typically arrives within 24 hours and most airports have refrigeration so your shipment can be left there for several days if you are delayed in picking it up.   Air Cargo has a minimum $55 shipping charge, but you can ship a LOT of product for this price.
  • Ship using the Super Saver feature.   This is also known as FedEx 3 day and saves about 25% over the FedEx 2 day cost.  This is only available during the colder months, not during summer.
  • If your business is in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Arizona, and Utah ship by FedEx Ground and your shipment will arrive within 2 days.  During the cold months we can also ship to Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico by FedEx Ground 3 day.
  • Consider placing a large order for the long-life products every 6-8 weeks and having that shipped by Air Cargo.  Then as you run out of the more perishable products like Tigger-Pods, have those shipped by FedEx.   This will lower your over-all shipping costs and save money.

Protecting your shipments during the HOT summer months

  • Consider having your shipment delivered to your local FedEx or FedEx Kinkos office.  Deliveries to both of these locations always happen early in the morning and the shipments don't end up in the trucks during the heat of the day, instead they are kept nice and cold in the Kinkos office.  Then you can pick them up at your convenience.   FedEx will usually call and let you know when the package arrives :)
  • Also consider getting your shipments by Air Cargo to your local airport.  The product will be stored in their refrigerator until you have a chance to pick it up.
